Stephen A. Berkovits

Born and raised in South Florida, Stephen joined the firm fifteen years ago as an associate for founding partner Joel Bernstein. Now a partner, Stephen concentrates his practice on pre-suit and insurance coverage matters.
Stephen frequently provides counsel to insurance carriers on their duties and obligations pertaining to claims handling and coverage issues. In this role, he assists insurance carriers with challenging pre-suit situations, including the handling and resolution of multiple, competing claims against an insurance policy. He also litigates interpleaders and declaratory judgment actions on coverage issues in state and federal court. In addition, he provides counsel to insureds in pre-suit situations.
Stephen received his law degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2004. During law school, he served on the ILSA Journal of International and Comparative Law and contributed to the NSU International Citator and Research Guide Project. He also wrote an article on the legal issues facing professional sports teams in Nevada that was published in the Gaming Law Review. Before law school, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida in 2001.
Stephen is admitted to practice law in all Florida state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He is a member of the Broward County Bar Association and the Florida Defense Lawyers Association.
Stephen and his wife, Michelle, reside in Miami with their two school-age children.
